Altai Geography

The Republic of Altai is located in the center of Russia, in the south-east of West-Siberia and occupies the area of 169,1 thousand square km. The length of Altai from north to south is 400 km, from west to east is 600 km. In the north Altai borders with Novosibirsk region, in the north-west with Kemerovskaya region, in the south – with China and Mongolia, in the east with Tuva and Khakassia. In the west and south-west Altai borders with Kazakhstan Republic.

Population of Altai is more than 2500 thousand people. More than 80 different nationalities live here. The Republic consists of 12 towns. The capital of Altai is Barnaul.
