2014 - the Year of Tourism in the CIS countriesThe CIS countries’ Prime Ministers gathered on Tuesday at the Constantine Palace, St. Petersburg to discuss the prospects for tourism development in the CIS countries. As per site tourbus.ru., the meeting resulted in adoption of “Development strategy for cooperation of CIS member states in the field of tourism for the period up to 2020”, and amending the “Agreement on the development of the exhibition and trade fair activities in the CIS”.

Adoption of a common strategy for tourism development is a milestone event for upcoming 2014, declared the Year of Tourism in the CIS. The strategy will focus on improving tourism activities in the CIS member states, including development of common standards for tourist services quality, personnel training for travel business, further development of transnational tour itineraries and so on.

As a reminder, in 2013 Uzbekistan also adopted a large-scale program for further development of tourism industry for 2013-2015, which affected Tashkent, Khorezm and Kashkadarya regions. The program includes a variety of items, including implementation of new projects in Chimghan-Chorvak recreational area, opening international routes through Urgench to the countries of Southeast Asia, the European Union, Asian-Pacific region and Russian cities, as well as construction and renovation of the hotels.
