This 2-day tour to Pankisi is one of the most unusual Georgia tours. Organised trips to the valley have developed relatively recently, allowing the region to retain its peaceful atmosphere, traditional way of life and close connection with nature.
Pankisi Gorge is a scenic area in northern Georgia, not far from the Russian border. For centuries, it has been home to the Kists, an ethnographic group of Chechens with their own dialect and distinctive culture. The Kists practise Islam, making Pankisi one of the few regions of Christian Georgia where Muslim traditions remain an important part of everyday life and cultural heritage.
This 2-day tour to Pankisi Gorge combines cultural discovery with active time in nature. You'll visit Kist villages and mosques, sample Chechen cuisine, stay in a family-run guesthouse, and discover some of the region's natural highlights, including Batsara Nature Reserve and Mount Tbatana, with panoramic views across the Caucasus.
