The First World War
Russian History - Russia in the First World War
The course of reforms was interrupted by the war. In July 1914 Austria-Hungary invade Serbia which was in mutual assistance pact with Russia. On August 1 Germany declared war on Russia. Russia’s allies in the war were France and Great Britain (Antanta military alliance). Antanta was confronted by Tripple Alliance (1882) consisting of Germany, Austria-Hungary and Italy. It was only in 1918 that Soviet government managed to withdraw Russia from the state of war. Germany surrendered.
