Tour itinerary:
09:00 - 10:30: Start your day by meeting your guide and driver at your Tashkent hotel. We'll embark on a 55 km drive (about 1 hour and 20 minutes) to Parkent city. Our destination is the Great Solar Furnace, a fascinating scientific relic from Soviet times, also known variously as Object Sun, Physics Sun, or Heliocomplex Sun. It's a site where terms like "heliopolygon" and "heliocomplex" come to life.
Upon arrival, we'll dive into a guided exploration of the Great Solar Furnace. This technical marvel boasts a solar concentrator, a towering technology hub, and a field of heliostats. These are special mirrors designed to perfectly align and concentrate sunlight onto the solar bowl. Today there are only two solar furnaces of this capacity and design in the world: one in Uzbekistan and the other in France.
12:00 - 12:30: After the tour, we'll make our way to the mountain village of Sukok, which nestles charmingly above the river sharing its name, at the base of the Chatkal ridge. A brief climb to the reserve's entrance is followed by a stop for registration and entrance ticket purchase.
12:30 - 14:00: Now begins the more active part of our tour (2 km, +160 m elevation gain). We'll trek to a quaint cave located at the base of a rocky outcrop. The trail meanders through a forest of ancient pines and assorted deciduous trees, serenaded by bird song and surrounded by the stunning vistas of the Chatkal ridge's spurs. After exploring the cave, we'll navigate a steep path down to a shallow hollow, then gently ascend back to the reserve's main entrance.
14:00 - 15:30: Lunch time at one of the quaint cafes dotting the roadside along the Sukok River. A perfect chance to relax and refuel.
15:30 - 16:30: Our day concludes with the return journey to Tashkent, wrapping up a memorable tour Solar Exploration near Tashkent.
