One of Central Asia’s most fascinating cities is the subject of this tour: Khujand. Founded over 2,500 years ago, Khujand saw the armies of Alexander the Great pass through (Alexander’s wife Roxana was from this region), the arrival of Islam in the 7th century, the destruction wrought by the Mongols in the 13th century, and the great flowering of the Khujand in the Middle Ages, with science, culture and business growing with the Great Silk Road. Take a day to explore this great city with the best day tour from Tashkent to see the sights: the central Fortress, Panjshanbe Bazaar, and plenty of museums and mosques. A day in Tajikistan is great to try something new, visit a different country, and deepen your knowledge and experiences in the region.
Tour itinerary:
Day 1: Tashkent – Khujand – Tashkent
Early morning transfer to Uzbekistan-Tajikistan border Oybek (100 km, 1 h. 30 min.). Upon arrival at the customs and passport control on both sides, kindly proceed to the exit of the border control area. At that point, our guide/driver will be waiting for you with the sign with your name. Meet Tajik local guide and driver and drive to Khujand (70 km, 1 h.).
Sightseeing in Khujand: Republican Historical-Ethnographic Museum, Timur-Malik Fortress, Archaeological Museum, Mosque and Madrasah of Shaikh Muslihiddin, Payshanba Bazaar. Lunch at a local restaurant.
Late in the afternoon return to the border point Oybek, customs and passport control, continue to Uzbekistan. Return drive to Tashkent. Arrive in Tashkent, transfer to the hotel/private residence. End of the one-day tour to Khujand from Tashkent.
