Mikhail Yuryevich Lermontov (1814 – 1841)
The greatest Pushkin’s successor was Mikhail Yuryevich Lermontov. Lermontov’s poetry is distinguished by the themes of loneliness and bitter disappointment. The motifs of rebellion, bold challenge and storm anticipation sound in his lyrics. The images of rebels looking for freedom can be found in “Mtsyri”, “Song of the Merchant Kalashnikov”. Other well-known immortal works of Lermontov are “Masquerade”, “Demon”, and “The Hero of Our Time”.
