Etchmiadzin and Zvartnots tour is a fascinating trip to the well-known sights of Armenia situated only 20 km away from Yerevan. Etchmiadzin and Zvartnots are two temples that were built 1500 years ago and are considered to be one of the most ancient Christian monuments of Armenia. The excursion to these interesting sights will take only half of your day.
Start one day Armenian tour by visiting Genocide Museum at Tsitsernakaberd Memorial Park in Yerevan. The museum covers the most tragic part of Armenian history, genocide of 1915. Continue to the holy city of Armenia, Etchmiadzin. Visit Etchmiadzin Cathedral* which is the residence of the head of Armenian Apostolic Church the Catholicos of All Armenians. Visit churches of St Gayane, St. Hripsime, St Shoghakat.
Drive to Memorial Ensemble Sardarapat, a pure red tuff construction dedicated to the Battle of Sardarapat in 1918. Return to Yerevan. On the way, visit the ruins of Zvartnots. Reputedly it was the most beautiful cathedral in the world, collapsed in the earthquake of 930. Both Zvartnots and Etchmiadzin are included in the UNESCO Wordl Heritage list. Drop off at hotel.
