The 5-day Armenia Wine Tour offers a focused introduction to one of the world's oldest winemaking cultures. It pairs tastings of Armenian wines with visits to the country's most celebrated sites. The itinerary covers modern wineries across the Ararat Valley and the mountainous region of Vayots Dzor. Ancient production methods and key archaeological sites are woven in throughout.
The tour opens in Yerevan, Armenia's capital, where the Wine Museum provides an orienting overview of local winemaking traditions. From there, the route moves through the Armavir and Aragatsotn regions, home to the Alluria and Jraghatspanyan wineries. Midway through, Khor Virap Monastery appears – a landmark of national significance set among vineyards, with an unobstructed view of Mount Ararat.
The second half climbs into the highlands, where grapes grow on rocky soils at altitude. Old Bridge Winery, Krya Wines, and Momik Wines each reflect this demanding terrain. Nearby, the Areni Cave has yielded archaeological evidence of winemaking dating back more than 6,000 years – among the earliest found anywhere on earth.
For those who want to understand Armenia through its wine, this itinerary offers a coherent and well-paced route. The local winemakers are generous hosts. The wines themselves – often built around indigenous grape varieties – reward close attention. Full tasting details and the day-by-day schedule follow below.
Tour itinerary:
Set against the distant silhouette of Mount Ararat, Yerevan blends grand Soviet-era architecture with lively cafés, wine bars, and leafy boulevards. The remainder of the day is at leisure – a natural opportunity to unwind after travel and begin discovering the warmth of the Armenian capital. Overnight in Yerevan.
The day begins at the Armenia Wine Museum, a space dedicated to the story of wine in Armenia – from ancient clay vessels buried in the earth to the modern revival of Armenian viticulture.
Next, visit Van Ardi Winery, a pioneering family estate that helped shape Armenia's contemporary wine culture. Set among vineyards overlooking the Ararat Valley, the winery produces elegant wines from indigenous grape varieties. A guided tasting offers an engaging introduction to the flavours and character of Armenian terroir. The experience continues at Alluria Wines, where a relaxed lunch is paired with estate wines and a tour of the winery sheds light on its small-batch production methods.
In the afternoon, visit Jraghatspanyan Winery, a boutique producer known for its commitment to quality and authenticity. Following the tasting, return to Yerevan for the evening.
Meals: lunch with wine at Alluria; wine tastings at Van Ardi and Jraghatspanyan.
En route, stop at Khor Virap Monastery, one of Armenia's most sacred sites. From its hilltop position, the views of Mount Ararat are extraordinary – a sight bound up with Armenian history and national identity.
Continue to Tushpa Winery, where modern techniques meet ancient grape varieties. A guided visit and tasting explore wines shaped by the sun-drenched soils of the Ararat Valley.
The road then leads to the village of Areni, widely regarded as the cradle of Armenian winemaking. After lunch in the village, visit Trinity Canyon Vineyards, an acclaimed winery set above a dramatic canyon where vines grow in volcanic soils and cool mountain air.
In the evening, check in at Old Bridge Winery Hotel. The day closes with a winery visit, tasting, and dinner – an unhurried experience celebrating the flavours of the region.

The morning begins at Krya Wines, where vineyards spread across the rugged slopes of Vayots Dzor. Altitude, climate, and native grape varieties each leave their mark on wines of notable character.
A short drive leads to Areni-1 Cave, where archaeologists uncovered evidence of the world's oldest known winery – more than 6,000 years old. Ancient wine presses, fermentation vessels, and drinking cups were found here, placing Armenia among the earliest centres of wine production.
