After crossing the pass, descend into the heart of Khevsureti. This historic and ethnographic region is known for its highland communities, who once lived in massive fortified stone villages and were regarded as some of Georgia’s finest warriors. Arrive in the historic village of Shatili, where dramatic stone buildings rise above a small modern settlement, creating the impression of a medieval fortress complex.
The village has a few basic guesthouses offering rooms with shared toilets and showers, as well as dining rooms serving simple Georgian cuisine. Dinner and overnight at the guesthouse.

Upon arrival in Anatori, take a walking tour of the tombs, which still contain the villagers’ bones, as well as the ruins of the former settlement. From Anatori, continue along the main road towards Mutso Fortress, which stands on a hill in the middle of a mountain valley (8.5 km, including 500 m uphill and 680 m downhill, duration: 3 hours, difficulty: easy). The route to the foot of Mutso Hill follows the Arghuni River, which here transforms from a shallow, gently flowing channel into a powerful mountain stream.
Along the way, pass several largely abandoned villages, where you can observe examples of the region’s traditional rural architecture. The climb up to explore the fortress is well rewarded, as the view from the top is breathtaking. After visiting Mutso Fortress, walk back down to the foot of the hill to meet your vehicle and drive to the village of Roshka (60 km, 2 hours).
Spend the night in a local guesthouse, where a homemade dinner will be served. Overnight in a private room in a guesthouse.
