The Central Asia in 2 Weeks Tour from Malaysia offers a rare opportunity to explore five countries at the heart of the Silk Road in a single journey. It is one of the most rewarding travel options for those making the long flight from Kuala Lumpur. This itinerary covers the historical, cultural, and scenic highlights of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, and Turkmenistan.
The journey begins in Almaty, Kazakhstan’s former capital, where striking modern architecture stands alongside monuments from the Soviet era. From there, you will continue to Bishkek, the capital of Kyrgyzstan, with an excursion to the Burana Tower – the last surviving landmark of the ancient city of Balasagun. The route then leads to Tashkent, Uzbekistan’s capital and the largest metropolis in the region. A high-speed train will take you to Samarkand, once one of the world’s great cities, renowned for its monumental Islamic architecture. From there, the journey continues into Tajikistan, where you will visit the breathtaking Seven Lakes and explore Penjikent, a modern town built near the ruins of an ancient Sogdian settlement.
The second week of your Central Asia tour begins in Bukhara, another of Uzbekistan’s historic centres, known for its distinctive mosques and centuries-old buildings. You will then cross the eastern Karakum Desert in Turkmenistan and visit Merv – once among the largest cities in the world, now a UNESCO-listed archaeological site. The tour proceeds to Ashgabat, the capital of Turkmenistan, followed by a visit to the Darvaza gas crater – a surreal fiery pit in the desert that has been burning for more than five decades. The final leg of the journey brings you to Khiva, a remarkably well-preserved medieval city in Uzbekistan often described as an open-air museum. The tour concludes with your return to Tashkent for your flight home to Malaysia.
